Broadview identifies four municipal lots for EV chargers; two sites have county and IFA funding

Public works Director Matt Ames told the trustees that the village has identified four municipal lots for electric vehicle (EV) chargers: 14th & Roosevelt, 18th & Roosevelt, 17th & Lexington and the municipal lot at Village Hall. “The village of Broadview right now have identified 4 locations in our municipal lots, for, EV chargers,” he said.
Ames said Broadview currently has funding commitments for two locations and that the 18th Avenue application is under building‑department review. “They have their permit application into the building department, for that. So, their permit application is under review,” he said, adding that ComEd service work is lined up for the site.
He told trustees the two sites expected to come online before 2025 are 18th Avenue and the Village Square Mall and that the funding sources include Cook County programs and the Illinois Finance Authority. “That is 18th Avenue, which is scheduled to begin as actually, they have their permit application into the building department... one comes from, Buck Build Up Cook, and the other 1 comes from IFA, which is Illinois Finance Authority,” he said.
Trustees raised operational and signage questions. Ames said municipally run lots will be enforced and paid‑parking rules will apply where kiosks are used; he noted kiosk replacement and clear signage are necessary to prevent confusion and charger misuse. He and police staff also discussed security cameras for some lots.
Next steps: staff will follow building‑department permitting for 18th Avenue, coordinate ComEd service activation, continue discussions with mall owners about a Village Square Mall charging site and return to trustees with further permitting and timing updates.
