Broadview seeks IDOT approval for Roosevelt Road streetscape in joint design with Maywood

Director Matt Ames told the Broadview trustees at a joint committee meeting that Broadview and neighboring Maywood have partnered, at IDOT’s encouragement, on a Roosevelt Road streetscape stretching “from 17th Avenue to 9th Avenue.”

Ames said the work is proceeding in phases. “Phase 1 has been submitted, and phase 1 is drainage and design,” he said, adding that the village commissioned Hancock Engineering for conceptual designs and drainage takeoffs. He told trustees that Broadview funded its phase‑1 design with an Invest in Cook grant and that Broadview’s share was “to the tune of about a $145,000.”

Ames described the intergovernmental agreement with Maywood as a way to keep the corridor’s design symmetrical for IDOT review and to improve Broadview’s chances of securing larger construction grants. “If everything goes, I mean, I say in a perfect world, we’ll end up with phase 1 approval in the 2025. Hope to have phase 2 approval, 2026, identify some funding, and, go to construction in 2027,” he said.

The director said Phase 2 would include construction engineering, permitting and bid documents that would allow Broadview to apply for programs such as the Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program (ITEP). Ames said the village plans to pursue state funding once IDOT approves the design and will seek construction engineering approvals in a subsequent phase.

Next steps: staff will continue coordination with Hancock Engineering and IDOT, pursue grant opportunities for construction, and return to trustees with updates on approvals and funding as they develop.
