Summary
Director of Human Capital Monica McMurray reported the district is about 97% staffed pending approvals, described mentorship and licensure pathways, use of grant and Title funds to train mentors, international hires for special education, and ongoing efforts to retain staff.
Monica McMurray, the district’s Director of Human Capital, told the board that talent acquisition and human-resources operations have focused on recruitment, mentoring and compliance with state licensure pathways.
McMurray said the district organized mentorship training using grant and Title funds for roughly 40 lead teachers, secured partnerships with institutions of higher education and international hires for special education needs (four teachers currently in place), and is completing verification steps for newly endorsed mentors. She reported the district was approximately 97% staffed if board recommendations were approved at the meeting and described ‘‘floating vacancies’’ that could be filled via surplus staff reassignments.
McMurray also highlighted compliance work (teacher licensure plans, SFA reporting, master scheduling and staff-student ratios) and raised contract-timing as an area to improve to reduce turnover. The board heard that 21st Century programming supports out-of-school learning and contributes to measured student growth; McMurray offered to provide more detailed vacancy and retention numbers on request.
