Board approves parking-lot, historic-house and public-safety funding items

At its April 28 meeting the Anoka County Board approved several consent and committee items covering infrastructure, historic preservation and public-safety resources.
Under Government Operations consent the board approved a classification abatement that exempts $100,663.08 in taxes payable in 2026 for a property related to Lisonbee Lakes and authorized a contract for the 2026 annual parking-lot pavement maintenance project with Minnesota Roadways in the amount of $990,875.
The Transportation and Parks committee recommended and the board approved awarding contract SCON26-1035 for $345,570 to rehabilitate the John Banfield House, a historic county property. Commissioner Reiner noted the award comes well under the $771,000 state bonding allocated to the project and that the board adjusted the scope (reducing some foundation work) to reduce immediate costs while preserving safety.
On public safety items the board accepted an Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG) from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety in the amount of $114,326 for a 30-month period (01/01/2024–06/30/2026). The board also accepted a $30,000 dedicated donation from Sherry Hansen to the sheriff’s office to support a canine officer; the donation and grant were approved during the public safety committee report.
Commissioners moved and unanimously approved the consent slate. The board also approved the reappointment of Sharon Hall as an at-large member of the Community Corrections Advisory Board for a two-year term ending April 2028; commissioners praised her experience as a former judge and the value of her contributions.
The actions were routine committee recommendations and were approved by roll-call votes; county staff were directed to implement contracts and proceed with bid advertising and construction scheduling where applicable.
