The Lafayette Redevelopment Commission on March 26 approved a traffic study agreement with Tiburt/T Bird and separately approved a signal modernization project at 9th and South Street.
Dennis introduced the South Street–Creasy Lane traffic study, saying the work will examine potential new roads and access points in a congested northeast corridor. Pat Jarbo (Pat Jarbo, T Bird Design) described the study as an initial effort to gather traffic counts, evaluate potential signal and striping changes, and involve stakeholders. Jarbo said Shrewsbury’s report is included as an exhibit and that the team will confirm whether past traffic counts need updating.
Commissioners emphasized public engagement. Speaker 3 asked whether stakeholder meetings would include residents of nearby Orchard Heights; Jarbo and Dennis said outreach to affected neighborhoods is planned. After the discussion, the commission approved "T Birds Design Service Corporation's agreement for the South Street Creasy Lane traffic study." (Transcript references both "Tiburt Design Services Corporation" and "T Bird Design" when the item was introduced and when the presenter identified himself.)
On a separate item Dennis described a 9th and South Street signal modernization project intended to replace and consolidate downtown signals; he said the contract amount is "not to exceed $59,000." Pat Jarbo noted potential curb and ramp adjustments as signals are moved. The commission approved the signal modernization contract.
Next steps: traffic counts and stakeholder meetings, followed by study findings and recommended changes for commission consideration.
