Basin updates: UVM farm dam removal will generate phosphorus credits; basin 8 opens applications

Dan Albrecht, CCRPC staff, updated the committee Sept. 3 on operations of Clean Water Service Providers for Basins 5, 7 and 8.
Albrecht said Basin 5 currently has a UVM Horticultural Farm dam‑removal project under construction. Though UVM is funding most of that project, Basin 5 will be able to claim some phosphorus credits from the work. Albrecht also said another Basin 5 project is going out to bid in Georgia and that two grant types are available regionally: one for project design and another for project development.
Dan Peirce, the Basin 7 lead, was absent from the meeting and no Basin 7 updates were provided.
Brian Voigt, CVRPC staff, reported on Basin 8: several projects are in preliminary design and a couple are in final design. He said Basin 8 is accepting rolling applications for both design and implementation and encouraged project development proposals; he also noted CVRPC staff are working with a basin planner to cost‑share culvert replacement projects.
The committee was directed to consider project development proposals and to contact Basin planners for details on applications and potential cost‑share arrangements.
