She said the main reason she obtained a block permit was safety: "That's why we closed down the block." Lyons asked the council to consider closing the block for a short window — about 5:30 p.m. until the event ends, roughly 7:30–8 p.m. — for future stoop sessions to prevent vehicles from moving too fast through the gathering.
Lyons also thanked the village for providing the Madison Street storefront (the "Old Cigar Shop" at 7410 Madison) for the Historical Society Garden Walk, saying the space increased foot traffic, allowed the society to display local history in the windows and raised awareness of other community events.
Council members acknowledged the remarks and several commissioners later thanked volunteers and departments for supporting community events, including the Park District and first responders for Fourth of July activities.
