Committee approves concrete tower building and hires consultant for fairgrounds master plan

Buildings & Grounds Superintendent Paul Van Treeck presented the Marquette County Fairgrounds conceptual planning design and options for a Baycom radio tower building at the Jan. 4 Property Committee meeting. Van Treeck told the committee that while a concrete structure costs more up front, it proved less expensive over years of service compared with a lightweight building.
Gayle Mack moved, and Mike Raddatz seconded, to upgrade the original tower-building proposal to a concrete structure and to fund the budget increase with EMS reimbursements rather than the contingency fund. The committee approved the motion.
Van Treeck also presented three quotes for a comprehensive master plan for the fairgrounds from Excel Engineering, BHA and Fehr Graham. Mike Raddatz moved to accept Excel Engineering’s quote of $32,450; Bart O’Brien seconded and the motion carried.
Van Treeck reported the sallyport project is on schedule and will be advertised for bid on Feb. 1, pending receipt of the soil report. The committee also noted that the Historical Society contract referenced elsewhere in the agenda had not yet been signed and will return to the February agenda. The meeting adjourned at 5:06 p.m.
