City to seek bids after county agrees to cover construction costs for Ezekiel Avenue resurfacing

Director Ransom told the council that the County Council of Mayors recently notified city staff that construction on the Ezekiel Avenue resurfacing project (from 31st Street to Carmel Boulevard, including a portion of Carmel) will be funded at 100% for construction costs up to $815,000.
Ransom said engineering design and bid-preparation funds were previously requested and that the city plans to send the project to bid this winter to secure better pricing in early spring. The goal is to complete construction by mid-summer if the schedule and weather permit.
Why it matters: a fully funded construction award materially reduces the city’s capital burden for a major street-improvement project and accelerates a project that staff said would improve road conditions and safety.
What happens next: staff will finalize bid documents and advertise the project for construction bids this winter; construction scheduling will depend on bids and weather.
