Antioch outreach group outlines growth in services for people experiencing homelessness

At the June 11 meeting, Antioch Area Outreach representatives described an expanded local effort to connect residents experiencing homelessness with services. Matt Taber (self-identified) and his partner described partnerships with the regional office of education, local libraries and health agencies to distribute a resource guide, hold monthly meetings (20–50 attendees), and provide training for library and township staff.
Presenters said schools in the Antioch area reported about 44–45 children as homeless; outreach organizers said those figures include doubled-up households and other forms of housing instability that may not be street-visible. The group has distributed Narcan at three community sites and reported 14 donated beds and mattresses delivered through partnerships with local organizations and the fire department.
Trustees thanked the presenters and encouraged continued coordination; staff noted the police and fire departments and township partners have been active in outreach. The board invited the group to remain in contact with staff and to continue community education events, including an upcoming Lake County housing-solutions presentation.
