Antioch honors Deputy Chief Norm Johnson and promotes two commanders

The Village Board of Antioch honored Deputy Chief Norm Johnson on June 11 as he retires after 24 years with the police department. Colleagues described Johnson as a steadying presence during crises and a detailed manager whose attention to procedure built public trust. The board presented Johnson with a plaque recognizing “exceptional leadership and unwavering dedication.”
Following the retirement recognition, the board promoted Sergeant Jared (introduced in the meeting as Jared Versali/Bersali) to commander of patrol and swore him in with family members present to pin his badge. The chief highlighted Jared’s 16 years of service, training certifications and role with the regional emergency response team.
The board also promoted Sergeant Audra to commander of investigations, noting she is the department’s first female commander in that role. The chief cited her investigative experience, leadership on child-advocacy and assault committees, and mentorship roles. The clerk administered the oath of office for both promotions.
The ceremonial actions concluded with board members and department leaders thanking the officers for their service and wishing the retiring deputy chief well.
