The Hampshire Police Department reported two recent vehicle-theft incidents and announced the department has received Tier 1 accreditation from the Law Enforcement Accreditation Council.
During staff reports, the chief (voice labeled 'Chief of Police') said the department is investigating two vehicle-theft incidents that occurred in driveways and on streets. The chief said a suspect, described as a Hampshire resident, was arrested in another jurisdiction and that investigators are coordinating with Sycamore, DeKalb and Rockford on related cases.
The chief emphasized the incidents were not solely due to unlocked vehicles and noted the department had a suspect in custody. Trustees asked clarifying questions about the nature and locations of the thefts, and the chief said details would remain part of the investigation.
The board also received a letter notifying the department that the Law Enforcement Accreditation Council unanimously approved Hampshire Police Department for Tier 1 accreditation, which the chief said recognizes professional service standards; the chief said the department will schedule a ceremony to recognize staff.
