IDOT will hard-close northbound 49th at Plainfield; restriping delayed until warmer weather

President Kukler told the board that the Illinois Department of Transportation has agreed to a hard closure of northbound traffic on 49th Street from Plainfield Avenue to 49th, prohibiting vehicles from passing Plainfield northbound.
"IDOT has agreed to move forward with a hard closure, from 49th to Plainfield," Kukler said, adding that the change is intended to "pretty much eliminate the cut through traffic that people south of 47th have been experiencing." He said the village will coordinate with IDOT on striping and timing.
Kukler said the restriping needed to implement the reconfiguration must wait until sustained temperatures reach about 40 degrees to allow paint to be applied. He cautioned residents that storms are expected in the short term and that the striping likely will be delayed "a week or two." Officials said the reconfiguration is expected to reduce traffic on 49th and 10th Avenue.
The board did not take a formal vote on the announcement; Kukler said staff and trustees will work with IDOT to monitor impacts and schedule the restriping as soon as weather permits.
