Macomb committee approves $29,500 design authorization for Dairy lift station force main replacement

The Macomb Committee of the Whole voted to place a $29,500 engineering authorization for the Dairy lift station force main replacement on next week’s council consent agenda after hearing that the existing line has had repeated failures.
Josh Peters, the city’s wastewater manager, told the committee the force main runs roughly 2,300 feet and serves the Debbie and Stacy Lane area. “We’ve had 5 breaks in the last 2 years,” Peters said, adding that each break requires reporting to the EPA and raises the risk of sanitary sewer overflows and fines.
Peters said the requested $29,500 covers survey, design, permitting and preparing the project for bid; the city plans to fund the engineering by reallocating funds that had been set aside to replace a vehicle (the truck replacement had been budgeted at about $80,000). Peters said, after engineering and cost opinion development, staff will return with an opinion of probable cost for construction.
Committee members moved to place the design authorization on the consent agenda; a roll call vote was unanimous and the motion carried. The item will appear on next week’s council consent agenda for formal authorization.
