Planning staff recommended approval Wednesday of a special‑use permit to allow front‑yard parking at 605 Memorial Drive and the committee scheduled the ordinance for second reading and final action at next week’s council meeting.
Miranda Lambert told the committee the applicant seeks to extend the front yard by 10 feet to install a dustless surface and to update the parking pad and driveway; the zoning board of appeals previously granted a setback exception for the lot. “We did not receive anybody for or against this. And so with that said and considering they're looking to be in compliance, staff notes, staff has no objections to this proposed variance,” Lambert said.
Alderman Dorset asked whether the extension would be 10 or 20 feet and Lambert confirmed a 10‑foot addition. The applicant and property owner attended the meeting and were available for questions; council took no final vote Wednesday and moved the item to the next council meeting for second reading and final action.
If approved at final action, the ordinance would authorize a special use allowing front‑yard parking as described in the application and subject to any conditions the council may impose.
