Resident requests sewer atlas review, warns park improvements could increase neighborhood flooding

John Pluto, who said he lives on East Avenue, told the Village of La Grange board he wants access to the village Sewer Atlas at Public Works to check how sewers and elevations run through the neighborhood and near park district property on 49th Street. Pluto said he has concerns that runoff from the park connects to a combination sewer that contributes to backups on nearby 9th and 10th Avenues.
"That park with 1 inch of rain produces 600,000 gallons of water," Pluto said, arguing the park-district's proposed improvements should include green infrastructure to manage runoff and minimize downstream impacts. He said he would like staff and the park district to consider redirecting some water into the parking lot at East Avenue or to pursue porous surfaces to reduce volumes entering the sewer system.
President Kugler advised Pluto to contact Village Manager Knight to arrange review of the Sewer Atlas at Public Works. Knight later reported on winter operations and budget workshops but no formal staff commitment or timeline for the sewer-atlas review was announced during the meeting.
