Riverton council opts into remnant opioid settlement, selects local real-estate consultant and moves utility-rate discussion

At its April 21 meeting the Riverton City Council took three discrete procedural and financial actions.
Opioid settlement: Staff described the sixth remnant-defendant national opioid settlement (dated February 2026) that identifies six additional regional distributors and dispensers settling for about $97.6 million. Unlike prior settlements routed through state attorneys general, these remnant-settlement funds are available to participating local governments; Riverton’s estimated share using the current allocation methodology is roughly $2,311 (0.0023% of the settlement) as a one-time payment. The council voted to opt into the remnant settlement and granted signatory authority to the city administrator to execute participation documents.
Real-estate consultant selection: The council reviewed a staff solicitation for local licensed real-estate broker services for marketing and disposition of lots at the RIW Energy Industrial Park and Wind River Air Park. Two local brokerages responded; a selection committee rated Home Soarscribe Realty higher than Snyder's Signature Properties and recommended negotiations with the highest-rated firm. Council approved moving forward to finalize a contract with the highest-rated firm.
Utility rates: Given remaining agenda business, the council agreed to remove the agenda item on utility-rate adjustments (resolutions 1549–1551) from tonight’s agenda and to address it at the next regular meeting; staff will invite any members of the public who came for that item to speak at the next meeting.
