Summary
The board agreed to accept $170,000 from Con Edison in lieu of partial restoration so the village can repave Hillcrest Avenue, Whitmore Place, Woodland Place and Monroe Place curb to curb rather than patch only disturbed halves.
The Village of Rye Brook voted April 14 to accept $170,000 from Con Edison to fund full repaving of streets affected by recent gas-main replacement work.
The village and Con Edison reached a preliminary agreement under which the utility will provide $170,000 in lieu of restoring only the disturbed portions of the roadways. Chris Bradbury explained that under code the utility would ordinarily repave the disturbed halves of the roads, but accepting the payment allows the village to use that money to repave each street from curb to curb.
The affected streets are Hillcrest Avenue, Whitmore Place, Woodland Place and Monroe Place. The public-works superintendent negotiated the arrangement with Con Edison to achieve full replacement rather than piecemeal patching; the board approved the resolution by roll call.
Mayor Klein said the approach will be better for residents than the partial restorations that code alone would have produced.
