Council reviews Vector Mixers expansion and grants an extra year on DOT America abatements

Dale (staff) said the abatement applies only to new real property and is phased so the company’s property‑tax payments rise over the abatement period. “So the first year, they wouldn’t pay anything,” Dale said, explaining the phased approach and performance conditions the company must meet to keep the abatement schedule.
Dane Keener, president of Vector Mixers, introduced the business and described growth plans. “Eventually, we'd like to get to the point where we're doing about 250 trucks a year out of that location,” Keener said, and added that the company currently is largely owner operated and has grown from zero trucks the first year to about 50 expected this year.
Why it matters: the abatement is intended to lower near‑term property‑tax costs to support investment and local job growth. Dale told the council roughly half of Vector Mixers’ employees live in the city area and staff said the council will review performance annually.
Separately, staff reviewed three existing abatements tied to DOT America (with start/completion dates discussed in the packet). The council moved to find DOT America in compliance and granted an additional year commitment for three abatements (described in council materials as: personal property abatement 2017‑24; real property abatement 2017‑23; real property abatement 2022‑6). The motion on the DOT America item was moved by Jennifer and seconded by Tad.
Next steps: the Vector Mixers resolution was read by title; staff said the council will complete the formal abatement paperwork and continue to monitor performance conditions. The DOT America abatements were renewed for an additional year commitment as recorded in council action.
