Mister Nelson presented the request and said the design-fee package would be submitted to access state lottery funds and would produce contract documents ready for bid. “This project would bring all of our high schools into alignment regarding the foods and nutrition program,” a presenter said, and staff emphasized equipment, ADA compliance and the need to do the work correctly the first time.
Presenters said the project will be located in Bibby Hall (the existing drama room) and is intended to allow students to earn certificates and to respond to local workforce demand in hospitality and tourism. Staff noted the district typically receives about $500,000 a year in lottery funds and must align uses to facility and design updates to access those monies.
A motion to approve the design fees carried unanimously; staff said construction and design phases will take much of the next year with a goal of offering coursework by January 2027 or in the spring semester following construction.
Next steps: staff will move forward with LS3P for design and pursue lottery funding approval and required approvals to proceed to bid documents.
