Residents press board on water contamination, HOA snow removal and stalled development agreement

A cluster of public commenters at the Jan. 27 meeting raised persistent local concerns about tap water quality, snow removal in homeowners association areas, and the status of a development memorandum of understanding (MOU) that residents said remains unsigned.
Several speakers warned that some residents continue to receive water with elevated lead and urged the village to press the water utility and regulatory agencies for corrective action. The village manager and trustees said they have been working with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and other state contacts, and the manager reported ongoing conversations and planned follow-ups.
On snow removal, residents said Public Works had repeatedly skipped certain streets inside homeowner associations and asked the village to clarify which roads are village-owned and which are private or HOA-maintained. Public Works staff said they have been responding at times "out of generosity," noted limits on truck sizes in certain parking areas and offered to bring maps to a future meeting showing village-maintained roads.
Separately, Brian Mott of the Southland Development Authority said he was seeking an executed copy of an MOU and ordinance for a development west of I‑57; village staff said the clerk's office must complete execution and the delay was administrative.
Village staff and trustees promised additional documentation and follow-up on water testing, HOA responsibilities, and the outstanding MOU.
