Palm Beach County commissioners make appointments, ask legislative team to brief on congressional redistricting maps

During the closing portion of the workshop, commissioners completed routine business, including committee appointments, off‑site proclamations and a request for the countys legislative affairs team to review newly released congressional maps.

Commissioner Weiss moved to reappoint Deborah Chandler to the infrastructure surtax oversight committee and requested an off‑site proclamation recognizing Anthony's Clothings 130th anniversary; the motion carried 6‑0. Commissioner Powell moved to reappoint Kimberly Weston to the surtax independent citizen review oversight committee and congratulated Brenda Bryant on her appointment as Pahokee city manager. Vice Mayor Woodward nominated Mark Wichter to the infrastructure surtax oversight committee.

After the legislature released preliminary congressional maps, several commissioners including Powell and Flores said they were concerned the maps could reduce Palm Beach Countys contiguous representation and asked the countys legislative affairs team to provide a briefing; Administrator Abruzzo said staff could present options but that any formal board position on the maps would require a majority vote.

Administrator Abruzzo also briefly updated the board on recent meetings in Washington, D.C., with FAA leadership regarding grant opportunities for PBI and said the county expects continued collaboration with federal partners. The mayor adjourned the meeting.

Whats next: staff will schedule the requested legislative affairs briefing on the maps and proceed with scheduling the noted off‑site proclamations and committee appointments.
