Eighth-grader and community group ask village to back spring cleanup and outreach

Lydia Oliver, an eighth-grade student at Crimundi Middle School, used the public-comment period to describe a school exhibition project focused on litter removal, protecting local animals and saving water. She asked the village for logistical support: a scheduled Saturday before March 23, help posting a flyer to the village website, and permission to recruit volunteers.
Community Block Club President Mary Truss and several trustees offered support. Trustee Fulcher and other trustees committed volunteers and outreach; staff asked Lydia to provide her group's logo and agreed to meet to coordinate sign-up and flyer details. The community block club said it will also help recruit school clubs and neighborhood volunteers.
"The goal is to get 50 volunteers signed up, both adults and teens," Lydia said. Trustees and community representatives encouraged partnerships with the public works department and local volunteer groups and said they would provide contact points and logistical support.
Mary Truss also promoted the block club's heritage showcase and an upcoming free Breakfast Bingo event on March 7 at the library, urging residents to attend and volunteer.
Staff and trustees said they would follow up to finalize dates and sign-up procedures; no formal funding request or vote was made at the meeting.
