La Grange board proclaims Sept. 14 Race Unity Day and unanimously approves commission reappointments

The Village Board of La Grange on Sept. 8 read a proclamation establishing Sunday, Sept. 14, 2025, as Race Unity Day in recognition of Diversity Days programming and named honorees who will be recognized at a rally in the Village Auditorium.
President Kukler read the proclamation and listed program elements for the rally, including an invocation from Reverend Brian Ambrose of the First Congressional Church, the Caring Place Youth Choir, essays and student presentations from Lyons Township High School, and awards for Regina McClinton and Jim Hinkley. President Kukler also thanked Marion Hanel Wilson, Harold Gibson and Becky Lorentzen and the community diversity group for organizing the event.
Under the president's report the board considered appointments and reappointments to advisory bodies. President Kukler presented reappointments of Beverly Hayes and Maurice McGee to the Community and Economic Development Commission, Peter O'Connor to the Plan Commission, and Ray Baker to the Design Review Commission. A motion to accept the appointments "as presented" was moved and seconded and approved by a roll-call vote; the board recorded unanimous passage.
President Kukler also reviewed recent community events, including the West End Arts Festival and the upcoming La Grange Home and History Tour, and thanked staff and volunteers for coordinating those events.
The board later voted to enter closed session to discuss pending or probable litigation and the discussion of minutes closed under the Illinois Open Meetings Act; the board did not intend to reconvene in open session and no further public action on appointments or the proclamation was recorded.
