House honors Early College Lady Hornets after Henlopen South title

The Delaware House of Representatives recognized the Early College at Delaware State University Lady Hornets on April 22 after the team won the Henlopen South conference championship. Representative Lynn requested the privilege of the floor to honor the players and invited head coach Kenneth Brock to address members.
Coach Kenneth Brock told lawmakers that academics are central to the program, saying, “At Early College School at DSU, we believe academics come first.” He noted the team’s overall improvement — finishing 16–4 this season after a 12–8 record last year — and an undefeated 14–0 mark in Henlopen South play. Brock highlighted individual achievements, including Marshae Brown reaching 1,000 career points and several players earning all-conference recognition.
Representative Lynn and other members praised the program’s combination of athletics and college-level coursework. Members invited student-athletes to the microphones; several identified themselves by name, grade and position. Assistant coaches and team managers also were recognized.
The recognition emphasized academics as well as athletic success: Brock stated that Early College students may earn up to 60 college credits before graduating high school and reported the student-athletes maintain an average GPA of about 3.3. The House granted the tribute and members offered congratulations before resuming the day’s business.
