Holewinski elected Oneida County Board chair; Fisher and Hess chosen as vice chairs

The Oneida County Board of Supervisors elected Scott Holewinski as chair during its April 21 organizational meeting, with the board voting 20 Aye and one absent (Showalter). Russ Fisher was elected 1st vice‑chair by unanimous ballot, and Dan Hess won the 2nd vice‑chair contest by a 13–7 vote over Michael Tautges.
Holewinski, elected to a third term as chair, thanked the board for its support and reviewed recent board accomplishments he said produced county cost savings, including restructuring regional human services into individual county human services departments, creating a county administrative coordinator, and reorganizing committees. He told the board that approximately $7 million in federal ARPA funding had supported major capital projects from 2002–2025 but that those funds will not be available going forward, and he said the county will face budget shortfalls requiring cuts.
The leadership elections followed the Clerk’s explanation of the ballot and nomination procedures and brief remarks from nominees and nominators. Supervisors also elected five members of the Public Works Committee by ballot at the same meeting.
The newly elected chair will make committee assignments and supervisors were told to watch for those notices from the County Clerk. The board adjourned its organizational business after approving the consent agenda and other items on the agenda.
