The Stewartville City Council approved a preliminary general development plat for the Peterson 9th Subdivision on a voice vote.
The planning commission held a public hearing June 3 and recommended approval subject to the city engineer’s review letter, council members said. Mayor Jimmy John King noted the packet and minutes were available and that one nearby property owner had raised a concern that the city expects will be resolved before final platting.
Council discussion touched on timing: members said construction could begin in late summer or this fall, and that roughly three‑quarters of the lots in the subdivision appeared to be already spoken for. The council moved and seconded the motion to approve; the motion carried on a voice vote.
Why it matters: Preliminary plat approval authorizes the subdivision layout to move forward through final engineering review and permitting. The city engineer’s outstanding review items must be addressed before final plat recordation, council members said.
The council did not set a specific start date for construction; staff and the developer will return with final plans and any required engineering responses before the city grants final approval.
