Palm De Terre River Association updates council on Chrissy Dam design changes

Sofia Marouska, watershed coordinator for the Palm De Terre River Association, gave the council an update on the Chrissy Dam project and how public comments were incorporated into a revised draft design.
"The public comments meeting for the Chrissy Dam period ended last week. We had 39 total comments, and we were able to, I think, address most of them in a modified design," Marouska said. She described three specific changes: an additional pool downstream that provides fishing opportunities closer to the parking lot and a wheelchair-accessible fishing platform; widening the main reservoir; and dredging a channel between the reservoir and a nearby storm drain to limit sediment accumulation.
Marouska said the steering committee met recently and that final water-depth and elevation details will depend on bankfull-width estimates, which are not yet complete. She told council members engineers plan to return with updated technical figures and that a public meeting will be scheduled once those estimates are available, likely in mid to late April.
Councilmembers asked whether engineers and planners will present again; Marouska confirmed they plan to return with the same public-notice process as previous meetings. She also mentioned grant-seeking and outreach channels for future notices, including local papers, the Morris Chamber email list, and social media pages.
