Some are outstanding. Some, I think, we have some gaps on that will straighten themselves out,” he said.
Olsen highlighted an especially large increase at Discovery, which showed about 83% participation this year compared with a roughly 70% three‑year average. He noted how the district logs participation through PowerSchool and that some measures (for example, team scholar status) rely on second‑semester grades for winter and spring sports.
Board members pressed for more demographic breakdowns. Member Namal said the aggregate results were encouraging but asked whether the district could report participation and safety/belonging results by race, ethnicity, disability and English‑learner status. Olsen and Dr. Steiner said the participation packet in this item includes breakdowns by grade, school and gender and that the district’s safety and belonging surveys already include demographic cross‑tabs; they added the participation survey could be adjusted to provide additional demographic detail in future reporting.
Nikki moved that the board accept that reasonable progress has been made on RSI‑3 for the 2025–26 (the board motion referenced the year as “2526”) school year. After brief discussion about aligning data with strategic‑plan measures, the board approved the motion by an 8–0 vote.
What’s next: Board members asked staff to consider adding additional demographic breakdowns to future participation reporting so the board can better gauge access and equity across student groups.
