School board hears principals’ updates, celebrates student awards and safety plans

Career and technical education staff reported state‑level competition success: multiple students won gold medals and several student teams qualified for national competitions in Atlanta. Staff said year‑to‑date attendance for those programs rose from about 89% last year to 92% this year. Miss McCall announced an EDTC open house on Thursday, April 9 (4–6 p.m.), two $2,500 scholarships, and a career fair with roughly 38 employers for high school seniors.
At the high school, Principal Mister Bennett recapped recent athletic successes, saying the boys' district competition went well and coaches reported team victories. He outlined prom safety plans: a prom promise assembly on Wednesday, April 15 at 9 a.m. at the football field featuring the Florida Highway Patrol, the sheriff's office and an ambulance to demonstrate the consequences of DUI, distracted and impaired driving.
Board members and the superintendent praised the high school's new school resource officer, Joey Franklin, for his traffic‑safety experience and student engagement efforts. The board also recognized staff and students for other extracurricular and academic achievements and encouraged community involvement.
