Summary
Planning staff told the commission they will route several direct sign replacements to building permit, circulated draft sign‑regulation edits for staff review, set a POCD consultant selection timeline and said the department has started placing QR-code stickers on public-notice signs linking to a master page of pending applications.
At the April 27 meeting planning staff presented a multi-item planner's report that included multiple sign‑panel replacement applications, an update on proposed sign regulation edits, the selection process for the town's POCD consultant and a new QR-code program for public-notice signs.
Shannon Rutherford described direct sign-panel replacements: a 4x4 aluminum panel for a new 'Maple Heart Hobbies' sign at 504 Main Street (16 sq ft), panel replacements associated with the Brookdale Farmington rebrand to Discovery Village and a reface of an existing pylon sign for a laundromat that will be called Village Laundromat. Staff recommended those direct replacements proceed to building permit review.
Rutherford said she has drafted plain-language edits to the town's sign regulations and will circulate tracked changes to staff for review before bringing them back to the commission. She also described the POCD consultant selection process: the selection committee is oversubscribed and will include staff and three commission members; staff aims to present a recommendation to town council in June so a consultant can begin work in July.
Staff circulated details of a new QR-code sticker program: IT created a single landing page that links to application pages for TPZ, ZBA and wetlands so a single QR code applied to public-notice signs directs users to the relevant materials online. Staff said they applied QR-code stickers to 24 double-sided public-notice signs and will update the town website as required.
