The board voted to absorb a $2,135 nonrefundable registration fee for an NSA conference canceled by a winter storm and approved payment of a $142 invoice from the Tallahatchie County Sheriff’s Office for medical care provided to a Tunica prisoner.
Several sheriff’s office appointments and a transfer were approved effective April 20, including Michael Jones and Deshaun Jones as deputies, Eddie Earls as lieutenant of investigations, Felicia Harris in dispatch and the transfer of Willie Carter from deputy jailer to deputy sheriff. Travel notices were accepted for staff attending memorials and training events.
The board approved road and maintenance requests: renewal of ChemPro weed-control contracts covering multiple county routes; purchase of vector-control sprayers and initial chemical drums (total shown in agenda); and personnel promotions and salary realignments for several road department employees. The board also approved hiring a certified diesel mechanic/shop manager (Reno Siggers) and a seasonal tractor driver (John Simmons), subject to preemployment screenings.
Mister Jackson (North Tunica Fire Department) requested a 2025 F-550 diesel brush truck for field and medical response; the board approved pursuing the purchase and discussed financing options including 5- or 7-year government capital lease terms.
Staff also announced the county’s first-quarter solid-waste field week and an Adopt-a-Road volunteer program; board members discussed illegal dumping enforcement and a pending citation in circuit court.
