Racine Unified board adopts meeting agenda but delays formal votes pending reorganization

The Racine Unified School District Board of Education approved the meeting agenda by voice vote but could not take any substantive votes after a reorganization and oath-of-office earlier that day left the board short of the 100% attendance required to elect new officers.

Board president (chair) said the board "cannot approve anything because we don't have the new officers in place" after noting that one member was unable to attend. The board moved forward with presentations and public comment but postponed the consent agenda, superintendent consent items and a resolution on parameters until the next meeting when full attendance is expected.

Clerk read the roll call for the agenda vote and announced the tally as eight yes votes. The chair said the board would carry on "just as we normally do" while reserving any formal actions for the next scheduled meeting. The chair and staff reiterated that items requiring official approval would be added to the following Monday's agenda.

The procedural limitation followed a reorganization meeting and an oath for the newly seated member representing District 77 earlier in the day. The chair said she would continue in her role until new officers were elected.

Next steps: the board will reconvene to complete elections and act on the postponed consent agenda and other items requiring formal action at the next board meeting.
