Committee hears LED fee update; House Bill 618 reported as amended

Madam Chair and the Senate Commerce Committee on April 22 heard from Representative McMakin and Louisiana Economic Development officials on House Bill 618, a housekeeping measure to adjust incentive-application fees and update reporting requirements.
Representative McMakin said HB 618 tweaks one fee requirement for LED and includes an amendment to modernize reporting to the Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget. Susan Bourgeois, secretary of Louisiana Economic Development, told the committee the changes are modest and tied to the Consumer Price Index. Bourgeois said LED can waive or reduce fees for small businesses when burdens would be unfair.
Bourgeois described the fees as largely self-generated revenue that supports administration of LED incentive programs and said modest adjustments help LED cover contract and auditing costs without unduly burdening applicants.
Senator Price moved that the committee report HB 618 as amended; the motion was adopted without objection. The committee adopted the amendment the chair described as changing terminology related to reporting to JLCB.
The committee did not record further debate on the bill; its next steps will follow the usual committee-on-reporting processes.
