Park County ABE hears public opposition to rezoning request A25-0118

Members of the public told the Park County Advisory Board of the Environment (ABE) on Jan. 13 that they oppose a rezoning request identified as A25-0118. Summer Preston, Stan Bates, Aly Ahlamer and Susy Bates spoke during the public-comment period and raised a range of concerns about the proposed change in land use, alleged noncompliance by the landowner with the outcome of a recent court case, and whether the property was previously operated as a waste transfer station, which could require environmental testing.
ABE said it did not have sufficient information in the record to make an informed environmental evaluation of A25-0118 and noted that the parcel appears to have been considered in prior referral responses (23PUD-03 and 23PUD-04). Board members asked county staff to clarify whether litigation affecting the property is pending and whether potential prior uses (including a waste transfer station) would require soil or other environmental testing before a recommendation could be made.
The board did not take a final vote or make a formal recommendation to approve rezoning during the meeting. ABE requested additional information and documentation before completing its environmental review and advised that past referral comments and any pending litigation should be considered by reviewing bodies.
