Board approves amendment with Huddle for high-school sports tech despite indemnity limitation

Summary
The board accepted a second amendment with Huddle Sports Technology, enabling use across three high schools. Staff warned Huddle declined indemnification; the attorney called the contract a manageable risk and described estimated annual program cost to schools.
The Citrus County School Board accepted a second amendment to an agreement with Huddle Sports Technology after discussion on April 28. Staff said the amendment allows all three high schools to use the platform for athletic video and data and that Huddle declined to accept indemnification language in the addendum.
An attorney working the contract characterized the remaining risk as limited and manageable for this program. “They did agree to our entire public records paragraph,” the district attorney told the board, while noting Huddle would not agree to broad indemnification. Staff estimated the program would amount to roughly $1,820,000 per year across the three high schools, though the board asked staff to confirm whether differences in charges reflected renewal timing, scope of services or entry dates.
Board members pressed for equity among the schools and asked staff to confirm a cost breakdown and ensure each school receives the same level of service. Staff said athletic directors were engaged in the negotiation and that if better alternatives were identified they would consider them going forward.
Miss Kennedy moved to accept the second amendment; Mr. Dodd seconded. The motion passed 4–0.
What’s next: staff will return to the board with a school-level breakdown of costs and services and follow up on equity concerns.
