Hendricks County renames animal advisory group, awards electrical work and retitles shelter supervisor

Hendricks County commissioners on March 10 approved several items related to the county animal shelter: they adopted a resolution restating and restructuring the advisory body to rename the Animal Control Advisory Group the Animal Care Advisory Group (ACAG) to align with Indiana code and facility functions; they agreed to change the Animal Shelter Supervisor title to Animal Shelter Director; and they awarded the electrical contract for the shelter to American Electric for $20,189, subject to legal review.

Raven Gerbick, president of the advisory group, presented the revised resolution and the board approved it; Auditor Ann Stark recorded the measure as Resolution No. 2026-06. Garmong Construction representatives Dan Zeurner and Zacree Sheese reported receiving four bids for the electrical work (American Electric $20,189; Payne Electric $24,981.43; Reliant Electric & Solar $28,925; Huston Electric $68,260) and recommended American Electric as the lowest and best bid. Commissioner Bob Gentry moved to award the contract as recommended; Commissioner Brad Whicker seconded the motion and the motion was approved unanimously 3–0–0, subject to legal review.

Minutes show the board intentionally updated language and governance for the advisory group to better reflect the shelter’s mission and to align with state code, and they changed the supervisor title to director by consensus. The electrical contract award advances planned improvements at the facility; the minutes do not record a construction schedule or the legal-review conditions.
