The Bozeman City Study Commission shortened its timeline for producing draft charter language and established dates for public review. Becky, leading the update, said the draft charter language and report will be finished by May 13 and released for public comment on May 28. The commission agreed to hold the formal public hearing on the tentative report on June 17 (commissioners discussed possibly moving it to June 18 to allow a later start time), with the final adoption of the report scheduled for Aug. 6.
Carson clarified that the May 28 meeting would be used to approve release of the tentative report for public comment; the June 17 (or 18) meeting will serve as the public hearing required by statute. Commissioners discussed aiming for a meeting time that would allow more public participation (5:30–6:00 p.m. start was proposed if scheduling allows).
Becky said there will also be an intermediate review on July 15 after the commission has considered public comments from the June hearing; that step would allow staff to return a revised draft ahead of the Aug. 6 final adoption. Commissioners asked staff to confirm final times and to publicize dates and locations early to maximize participation.
What happens next: staff will finalize the draft by May 13, release it for public comment on May 28, and confirm the public hearing date and start time (June 17 or June 18).
