Canton Board funds Cherry Hill Village parking finish work and park improvements

The Canton Township Board of Trustees on Aug. 26 approved additional funding and purchase orders to complete the Cherry Hill Village public parking project and to buy playground decking equipment for two parks.
Staff said the Cherry Hill Village Public Parking Lot at 50525 Cherry Hill Road is in its final construction stages and that additional engineering coordination was needed to address utility conflicts. The board approved increasing OHM Advisors' purchase order by up to $21,000 to assist with utility coordination and milling/overlay work to finish the south parking lot. "This is actually adding close to 50 spaces to Cherry Hill Village," Director Lefevre (speaker 13) said, noting the lot sits around the fountain and town square.
To finish the work and provide required lighting the board approved a $179,363.44 increase to Angeline Civil LLC's purchase order for lighting and milling and replacement of the south lot. Staff said lighting is required for security and township ordinance compliance before opening the lot to the public.
Separately, the board approved two sole‑source purchase orders for playground decking equipment — Pinchera LLC ($15,491) and We Build Fun Inc. ($14,578.07) — totaling $30,069.07. Staff said the purchases use Wayne County Parks Millage funds and will serve two playground projects (Heritage Hideout and Del Oroco). The motions passed by voice vote.
What this means for residents: Staff expect the parking additions to improve access for nearby businesses and events in Cherry Hill Village and to ease event parking pressures. Board members and a public commenter had earlier raised concerns about whether the lot would sufficiently address local business needs; staff said the project will add about 50 new spaces.
