The Jennings County Board of Commissioners unanimously agreed to sign a letter of support for a proposed walking and biking path between Vernon and North Vernon after a presentation by Jorge of the Jennings County Active Transportation Committee.
Jorge told the board the committee is working with INDOT (state program) and private landowners to scope a path that would link the town of Vernon, Scattertub County Park and the North Vernon line. He asked for county support only in the form of a letter on county letterhead to show local commitment; he said there was no request for funding at this stage.
"We're asking this morning no money, no commitments to any park, but we would like a letter of support," Jorge said, noting nearby local governments had already signed similar letters and the state program would handle in‑house engineering if the project scores well. Commissioner (speaker 6) made the motion to sign the letter; the board seconded and approved it unanimously. The committee will supply a draft letter for county staff to place on letterhead and route for signature.
The board’s decision does not obligate county funding; it authorizes staff to execute a standard letter of support once the committee forwards the draft.
