Kentwood commission approves series of routine contracts, construction items and purchases

Site plan: The commission approved the final site condominium plan for Walnut Woods Subdivision. Staff said the development is substantially complete and a bond will cover remaining punch-list items.
Bids and construction observation: The commission authorized the mayor to award a construction-observation contract for ClearPoint Number 3 to Colliers Engineering Design for an amount not to exceed $31,801 (including a 10% contingency). The work covers a short extension of water and sewer and a cul-de-sac to create roughly four lots.
DPW parking lot: The commission approved an amendment to the contract with Triangle Associates Inc. for repaving the Department of Public Works parking lot and associated drive lanes, not to exceed $355,438, to be paid from the property and building fund. Staff explained the work responds to heavier-than-anticipated construction traffic tied to other city projects and recommended using contractor contingency funds first.
Donor recognition and community center: The commission approved a contract with Spaces to Experiences LLC to design and install a donor-recognition feature at the Kentwood Community Center for a not-to-exceed amount of $27,500 plus 10% contingency using donation funds. Staff said the firm provided sample mock-ups and a warranty; the city will handle routine maintenance.
Police vehicles: The commission approved replacing the Special Response Team van (purchasing a gently used vehicle to save an estimated $20,000) and authorized replacement of three staff vehicles (Chevy Traverse, model year 2026) to replace aging fleet units. Staff said vehicles are available locally and can be outfitted on a favorable timetable.
Marketing consulting: The commission approved extending an agreement with Well Design Studio for brand and digital marketing services for the new community center for an amount not to exceed $38,775 (including 10% contingency) from the recreation operating budget; staff noted the work is time-sensitive given an upcoming membership launch and grand opening planning.
All items were approved by voice vote as presented. The chair noted budgeting and next steps where applicable, and staff will proceed with contract execution and administrative follow-up.
