Fruitport council reviews 2026–27 budget and approves $1.50/hr DPW pay step

The Village of Fruitport council received a review of current budget balances and proposed inclusions for the 2026–2027 budget from Treasurer Ann LaCroix at its March 9, 2026 meeting. LaCroix summarized completed 2025–2026 budget items, current estimated balances and income, and the items staff proposes to include in next year’s budget.
In personnel business, Personnel Committee Chair Carl Rothenberger moved to offer a $1.50-per-hour step increase to a Department of Public Works team member following the committee’s meeting with the employee on Feb. 17, 2026. The motion, supported by Chris LeFaive, passed on a unanimous roll-call vote. The minutes state that the adjustment should be reflected in the 2026–2027 budget documents; the minutes do not specify which payroll lines will be altered or the ongoing annual cost impact.
No public comments were recorded during the second public-comment period. The council adjourned at 6:08 p.m. after completing the budget review and other business.
