The Village of Fruitport Council adopted its fiscal 2026–27 budget at its March 30 meeting, approving a budget that runs from April 1, 2026, through March 31, 2027, and authorizes levies and appropriations across the General Fund, Major Street Fund, Local Street Fund and Debt Service Fund. The council voted unanimously to approve the budget resolution presented by President Roger Vanderstelt.
Treasurer Ann LaCroix presented the budget during the council’s budget hearing; there was no public comment during the hearing. The resolution directs the treasurer to place a levy of 7.000 mills on the village assessment rolls to be collected in the normal manner to help pay village financial obligations.
The resolution also declares Ann LaCroix as the Village of Fruitport’s chief financial officer for the fiscal year 2026–27, charging her with oversight of expenditures and appropriations and with making recommendations to avoid deficits. Separately, council approved a motion authorizing the treasurer to transfer funds as necessary to pay routine obligations — including garbage, utilities, Fuelman charges, insurance, wages and withholding — and to purchase postage and office supplies to avoid late fees.
All budget-related motions were approved by roll-call votes with Councilmembers Jeff Guiles, Chris LeFaive, Bill Overkamp, Carl Rothenberger and President Vanderstelt voting yes. The council closed the budget hearing and returned to the regular meeting after the vote.
Next steps: the adopted resolution becomes the appropriation authorization for the indicated funds for the fiscal year beginning April 1, 2026; the clerk will record the resolution in the village minutes.
