Council honors Indiana Railroad Company on 40th anniversary

The Indianapolis City-County Council on April 6 adopted a special resolution recognizing the Indiana Railroad Company on its 40th anniversary. Councilor Jones introduced the resolution, citing the railroads role in regional freight service, job creation and community programs such as the companys Santa Train.
"Be it resolved by the city county council of the city of Indianapolis and of Marion County, Indiana," Jones said while presenting the measure, which the council moved and carried without objection.
A representative of the Indiana Railroad Company thanked the council and described the railroad as an engine of long-term economic development. "With the right vision and partnership, it could serve communities and create opportunity," the company representative said, adding that the railroad supports "good paying jobs" and connects local industry to national and global markets.
The resolution noted INRDs national recognition in the industry, its community grants program and services supporting agricultural and industrial shipments. The measure invited the mayor to join the resolution by affixing his signature and stated it would be effective upon adoption and compliance with the cited Indiana Code provision.
The council recorded the resolution as passed and returned the matter to the sponsor. The meeting proceeded to other agenda items.
