Evansville council establishes Republic Economic Development Area for 153-unit project

The common council voted unanimously on April 27 to adopt Resolution C2026-15, establishing the Republic Economic Development Area and an associated economic development plan.
Colby Jackson of the Department of Metropolitan Development told council the resolution removes the Republic project parcels from the Burkhart Road allocation area and creates a separate allocation area for the Republic Economic Development Area. "This is the Republic project ... a 153 unit mixed use development. It's market rate ... out on Vogel Road," Jackson said, and noted approval by the Redevelopment Commission and the Area Plan Commission.
Jackson said the financing for the project will be considered at a future city council meeting. No public opposition was recorded during the discussion. Council adopted the resolution 8–0.
The action establishes the planning and allocation framework; any subsequent financing requests or tax-increment financing actions will return to council for separate approval.
