Council adopts ordinance to amend Evansville historic-district rules

Supporters from the Belle Meade Baird Park neighborhood attended the meeting to thank council members for sponsoring and advancing the ordinance. "A bunch of neighbors have come here in support of this ordinance," said Shonna Jarbo, president of the Belle Meade Baird Park Neighborhood Association. Jarbo said the neighborhood has worked for years to bring the proposal forward and expressed appreciation to the ordinance sponsor.
After public comment, the clerk called the roll. The council recorded five ayes and zero nays, and the chair declared Ordinance G 2026-08 adopted.
The measure proceeds as a revision to the municipal code’s provisions on historic districts; the council did not include additional amendments in the public discussion at this session. The ordinance drew no recorded opposition during the meeting and the council moved promptly to the next agenda items.
