Board approves stage rental for June concert; larger event requests sent back for details
Summary
The board gave consensus approval to rent the stage to Atown Event Production for a June 20 concert (fee $500) after Betsy Pearson presented her for-profit event request. Other requests — including an On the Go Taxi appreciation event and a multi-day Juneteenth proposal — were referred to applicants for fuller details, especially on electrical needs, staging and use of splash pads.

The Anderson City Park Board gave consensus approval to a stage rental for a June concert and asked several other event applicants to appear before the board with fuller plans.
Betsy Pearson told the board she is the owner of Atown Event Production and provided her address. "I am the owner of Atown Event Production. I am not a nonprofit company. I am a for profit company," she said, and added she has a $1,000,000 liability-insurance certificate. Pearson requested use of the larger (older) stage at Grace Park for a music concert on June 20 and said the event will be an adult matinee that will conclude by 10 p.m.
After discussing stage logistics and past rentals, the board gave consensus approval for Atown Event Production to rent the stage at a fee of $500; staff noted the quoted fee had increased by $100 from the prior month.
The board deferred final decisions on two other event requests. Ryan Watkins of On the Go Taxi proposed a June 11 customer-appreciation event at May Park with free food, games, prize giveaways and music; staff said Watkins appears to seek both shelters and raised concerns about whether the splash pad would be used or whether bounce houses might be part of the plan, and advised that the applicant come to the board to clarify the scope.
A community collective (contact: Vinda Hendricks, event associated with Randall Beard) requested three days at Miller Park for June 19–21 with a stage, vendors and activities for kids and seniors and asked for a road closure; board members noted extensive electrical needs and a potential stage/date conflict and requested the group appear with details.
What’s next: the board said applicants for larger or multi-day events must appear at a future meeting to provide full logistics, electrical plans and any special requests (road closures, bounce houses, exclusive splash-pad use) before final approval.
