Committee adopts amendments to modernize Louisiana workforce strategy; transition team added

Representative Wible presented House Bill 680 as a comprehensive update to Louisiana's workforce strategy, saying the measure would increase coordination across the state and build on last year's "one-door" model. The author introduced amendment set 2540, which the committee accepted and which adds transparency reporting to the legislature and guarantees attention to rural parishes.
Secretary Susie Shawen of Louisiana Works told the committee the amendments aim to ensure the legislature sees performance improvements, that each parish is fairly represented, and that movement in the workforce system is measurable. "These amendments are really intended to make sure there's good transparency to the legislature on the performance improvements that we are shooting for," she said.
The amendment package also creates a transition team to guide an 18-month move to the new model and adds two stakeholder seats, including a representative from the AFL-CIO and another from the workforce. The author said the additional members respond to stakeholder requests and will be added before floor consideration.
With no objection, the committee reported HB 680 as amended and adjourned the hearing.
