Summary
Miss Becky Yanak told the Lavaca County court that first‑quarter transit income was $84,696.37 (expenses $82,463.54) while the nutrition program ran a deficit of $42,812.51 (income $52,769; expenses $95,581.51); she requested plumbing repairs, parking‑lot work and security cameras at the senior center.
Miss Becky Yanak delivered the Community Connections quarterly update during the April 27 meeting of the Lavaca County Commissioners Court.
Yanak told the court transit revenues for the first quarter totaled $84,696.37 while transit expenses were $82,463.54, a modest surplus. By contrast, the nutrition program had $52,769 in income against $95,581.51 in expenses, producing a program deficit of $42,812.51 that required use of grant funds to continue services.
"Thankfully, the Dixon Allen Foundation gives us the money to help cover those expenses," Yanak said, noting that foundation support and other grants were needed to sustain the nutrition program. She also reported a March vehicle loss when a meal delivery driver had an at‑fault accident; grant proceeds were used to buy a replacement vehicle.
Yanak asked the court to consider infrastructure and safety needs at the local senior center: aging water and sewer lines that have caused repeated leaks, a parking lot in poor condition that frequently must be repaired, and security cameras inside and outside the facility to address liability and safety concerns.
She said regional transportation planners contracted by TxDOT visited April 15 and will form a committee to assess regional needs as part of a five‑year plan; she called that engagement "very exciting" and said it could help address ongoing leadership gaps in the regional Golden Crescent planning body.
The judge thanked Yanak, said the county will seek estimates to address the water and sewer lines and look into repurposing courthouse camera upgrades to save funds, and no formal county action was taken on the requests at the meeting.
