Johnson said the funds for the project come from convention-center revenues and downtown sales-and-use taxes—not the city general fund—and that installation is scheduled for the summer if the contract is awarded.
Chavez requested advance briefings ahead of the full-council vote and said he could not support the item at committee without more detail. Despite that, the committee voted to forward the bid recommendation; the motion carried.
The committee's action forwards the contract-award recommendation to the full council, where final authorization and any additional scrutiny will occur.
